In an inspiring act of corporate social responsibility, the Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) has taken a bold step to improve the lives of a vulnerable family by building a new home for Mr. Lukhele and his family. This initiative highlights ENPF’s steadfast commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with disabilities, in alignment with the SNPF Order.
After recognizing the difficult circumstances Mr. Lukhele faced in finding safe and dignified housing, the ENPF Board selected him as the deserving beneficiary of this project. In a move that underscores the Fund’s dedication to social change, the construction of the home was launched, offering Mr. Lukhele and his family a fresh start. This effort is consistent with the principles outlined in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes the right to adequate housing as a fundamental human need.
On Friday, 28 February 2025, the ENPF Executive Committee, led by the CEO and over 30 staff members, took part in a hands-on painting exercise at Mr. Lukhele’s newly built home in Maliyaduma. This event went beyond a formal gathering and focused on the ENPF team actively contributing to the completion of the house.
Led by the CEO, staff members painted the home, bringing the finishing touches to the project with dedication and enthusiasm. Each stroke of the brush symbolized more than just a cosmetic touch, it represented the warmth, care, and unity that the ENPF team sought to bring into the Lukhele family’s new life.
Speaking at the event, the ENPF CEO emphasized the deep significance of the initiative. “Today, we are not merely finishing a construction project; we are fulfilling a basic human right. Housing is a cornerstone of dignity and security, as acknowledged in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. By putting these final touches on this home, we are offering Mr. Lukhele and his family more than just walls and a roof, we are providing them with a fresh start, a place to feel safe, secure, and truly at home.”
The CEO further reflected on the broader meaning of the initiative, particularly in the spirit of February, a month associated with love and compassion. “While many celebrate love through grand gestures, we believe that love is best shown through service to others, through meaningful actions that improve lives. There is no better way to honor this season of love than by giving a family the gift of a place they can call home.”
The CEO also expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Labour & Social Security, MP Phila Buthelezi, and the ENPF Board for their support in making this vision a reality. “We could not have achieved this without the support of our board members and leadership,” she noted. “This project is a true demonstration of what can be accomplished when we work together with a shared purpose.”
This initiative serves as a powerful example of how businesses can contribute to the well-being of their communities, beyond their usual business functions. Through its CSR program, ENPF continues to make strides in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and disabled, ensuring that they are not left behind in the journey toward social equity.
By investing in housing, ENPF understands that a home is more than just a physical structure, it is a foundation for a better life. For Mr. Lukhele and his family, their new home is a beacon of hope and a symbol of a brighter future. For the broader community, it serves as a reminder that positive change is possible when individuals and organizations come together with a common purpose.
As the event concluded, the message was clear: this was more than just the construction of a house. It was an inspiring example of corporate social responsibility in action. ENPF encourages other organizations, businesses, and individuals to follow suit and make a difference in their communities, reaffirming that true success is measured not only in profits but in the positive impact made on the lives of those who need it most.
