Golden Jubilee of Vision and Service: ENPF at 50, A Legacy of Security, Growth, and National Prosperity

On 11 July 2025, the Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), affectionately known as Lidlelantfongeni, celebrated a historic milestone, 50 years of unwavering service, financial security, and national impact. The golden jubilee, held at the prestigious Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, brought together national leaders, partners, members, and families to honour five decades of transformative contributions to the lives of Emaswati.

From Humble Beginnings to a Pillar of National Trust

Established in 1974 by His Majesty King Sobhuza II with a modest seed capital of E100,000, Lidlelantfongeni was designed to provide workers with a reliable financial safety net upon retirement. Over the decades, the Fund has grown into one of Eswatini’s most trusted financial institutions, now managing assets valued at E6.8 billion, while maintaining its hallmark principles of integrity, accountability, and service excellence. From its first payouts in the 1980s to supporting hundreds of thousands of members and their families today, Lidlelantfongeni’s trajectory mirrors the story of prudent growth, social responsibility, and national development.

A Golden Jubilee Celebrated with Honour

The anniversary gala was graced by His Majesty King Mswati III, members of the royal family, the Prime Minister, ministers, business leaders, and international partners, a testament to Lidlelantfongeni’s national importance and cross-sector influence.

In his keynote address, His Majesty praised the Fund’s impeccable track record, noting that in fifty years, ENPF has never reported loss or mismanagement of members’ funds, a rare achievement for any institution. He encouraged the Fund to continue its evolution, transitioning into a fully-fledged national pension fund, to provide sustainable retirement income for all Emaswati.

A New Logo for a New Era

A highlight of the jubilee was the unveiling of Lidlelantfongeni’s new logo by His Majesty the King. The redesigned logo symbolizes the Fund’s modern identity, growth, innovation, and forward-looking vision.

CEO Futhi Tembe described it as:

“A visual representation of our journey from humble beginnings to a trusted national institution, while embracing growth, stability, and inclusivity for all members.”

The new emblem represents Lidlelantfongeni’s evolution into a future-ready institution, marking the golden jubilee as not only a celebration of the past but a launchpad for the next 50 years of service and innovation.

Honouring Achievements and Growth

The celebration also reflected on the Fund’s impressive accomplishments:

  • Asset growth to E6.8 billion, with more than 59% invested locally
  • Ownership of landmark assets such as Happy Valley Hotel, Pick n Pay Eswatini, Bhunu Mall, Swazi Plaza, Montigny, and Eswatini Mobile
  • Over E3.1 billion paid in benefits, empowering retirees, supporting families, and strengthening communities
  • Adoption of digital platforms like the MyENPF app and employer portal, improving accessibility and efficiency for members

CEO Futhi Tembe emphasised that these achievements were possible due to dedicated leadership, committed staff, and the trust of members over decades, which together have positioned ENPF as a cornerstone of national financial security.

Towards a Future of Lifetime Pensions

A central theme of the golden jubilee was Lidlelantfongeni’s proposed transformation from a provident fund to a fully-fledged pension fund, ensuring lifetime monthly pensions for retirees. This transition is designed to provide predictable, sustainable income, particularly for aging workers and informal sector employees, strengthening social protection for all Emaswati.

The King underscored the importance of this evolution, challenging Lidlelantfongeni to grow its assets to E100 billion by its centenary in 2075, a bold vision for future generations.

Celebrating People and Partnerships

The jubilee honoured the leadership, board members, staff, employers, and members who have contributed to Lidlelantfongeni’s enduring legacy. Tributes highlighted their role in maintaining trust, excellence, and national relevance. International bodies, including the International Social Security Association (ISSA), lauded Lidlelantfongeni for its governance, innovation, and service excellence, reaffirming its standing regionally and globally.

A Legacy of Trust, a Vision for the Future

As the golden jubilee concluded, with cultural performances, reflections, and shared pride, it became evident that Lidlelantfongeni is more than a financial institution; it is a pillar of social security, economic stability, and national progress.

The new logo, the bold vision for the pension future, and the milestones achieved over 50 years all signal a Fund that is ready to serve its members for decades to come, building on a foundation of integrity, resilience, and commitment.

The golden jubilee was not just a celebration of the past, it was a renewal of promise: to safeguard members’ financial futures, invest in national development, and continue serving Eswatini with excellence, foresight, and purpose.
